Aswad which means “black” in Arabic, was formed in London in 1974.
It’s the first group to prove that Caribbean music could successfully takes root in Europe. Besides, their first eponymous album “ASWAD” recounts the experiences of the West Indian immigrant community in London. The following decades were punctuated by great successes for the Kinsley Forde trio, Angus "Drummie Zeb" and Tony "Gad" Robinson, including a prestigious MOBO awards to recognize their contribution to black music. More than 45 years after its creation, Aswad is still appreciated by reggae fans for its rich melodies and fascinating harmonies, woven on hard rhythmic tracks and inspired horn riffs.
